TeddyCosmetics Luxe marble brushes & Real Techniques Beauty Blender review

Teddy cosmetics powder brush from the luxe marble (10pc) brush set. “Hand-crafted with soft nylon, this cruelty free set enables detailed eye work and face contouring”

These handmade brushes are my favourite, not only for their design but their functionality. In my everyday routine, I use the powder brush set my NARS translucent powder. It’s perfectly shaped to set my under eye area, nose, chin and forehead. The brush fibres pick up the powder gently and it applies flawlessly and evenly on my skin.

The other brushes in this set are equally great, specifically their angled contour brush, blush brush and eye brushes. However for my simple every day look, the powder brush is the star.

TeddyCosmetics offers free shipping worldwide, and all their products are vegan & cruelty free. I couldn’t recommend this brush set more!

Beauty Blender:

Real techniques miracle complexion sponge. “Optimize your beauty routine with this 3-in-1 multi-functional sponge. Rounded sides blend large areas of the face with a repeated dabbing or ‘stippling’ motion. Precision tip covers blemishes and imperfections. Flat edge for the contours around the eyes and nose.

I absolutely adore this beauty blender and have repurchased it several times this year. The description does it justice- it has three surfaces so you can use it on all parts of your face.

I love this sponge because it soaks up excess product (too much concealer under the eyes is never a good thing… creasing alert!!), but never sheers out the coverage.

I find this sponge works best when it is slightly damp. I run it under warm water and gently dry it in a towel. I use it to apply my MAC concealer and they work beautifully together.

I have tried applying concealer with my fingers and it always results in creasing and a patchy application. This beauty blender ensures smooth, consistent coverage and limits creasing.

Everyday makeup staples: Concealer & Setting Powder

Mac pro-longwear concealer in the shade NW20. “A fluid concealer that provides medium to full matte coverage for up to 15 hours”

I have a mixed relationship with this product. I have tried many concealers in my time and have yet to find one that doesn’t crease under my eyes. I have trialled and error-ed with this product and finally found a solution that works: apply a tiny bit of product on a damp beauty blender underneath the eye. Blend upwards towards the eye. Be very light handed with the setting powder.

Do this and you are guaranteed medium-full, even coverage in a matte finish with minimal creasing. Some days I crease no matter what I do and it’s just something I have to accept.

I use the concealer in my T-zone too in the same way: beauty blender, light handed and minimal product. Works beautifully.

I love using a matte concealer with dewy foundation. There’s nothing worse than looking beautifully dewy at first and throughout the day your natural oils shine through…you look in the mirror and gasp at the disco ball in the reflection.

It’s not 100%, but it’s made its way to the top of my concealer list where it shall stay until surpassed by something better.

Setting powder:

NARS light reflecting loose setting powder. “An innovative, light-reflecting loose powder that reduces the look of shine and seamlessly sets foundation.”

This product marked the beginning of my makeup journey all those months ago. I timidly walked into the MECCA MAXIMA store looking to start my collection, and this was the first purchase (along with too faced foundation, urban decay concealer and urban decay lipstick… all of which made it to my not impressed list for various different reasons).

On the beginning of my journey, I was quite heavy handily applying this all over my face, resulting in a cakey ghost face. Needless to say, I was doing something very wrong.

I absolutely love this product now. It has extremely soft, delicate particles that blend seamlessly into the skin. No wrinkles or fine lines show. I repeat!!! No wrinkles or fine lines!!

As I mentioned before, the key to setting the T-zone is a light application with only a small amount of product. A little really does go a long way. I couldn’t recommend this more. It controls shine and oil throughout the day, keeps makeup set and I love the way it looks.

Another note: If you want a dewy look, I would recommend powdering down your t-zone and centre of forehead! I end up looking super sweaty if my nose, chin and forehead are glowing and catching the light more than my cheeks!

Everyday makeup staples: Primer & Foundation Review

Hey guys, here are reviews of my everyday base makeup staples! Hope you enjoy and find it helpful!

Mac prep + prime natural radiance illuminating base, in the shade radiant yellow. “A makeup primer that’s specifically beneficial for oily and combination skin types.”

I tried both colours at the counter (pink & yellow) and found little difference between the two. I ended up with the yellow to help neutralize redness around my Tzone!

This primer is absolutely gorgeous. There are tiny specks of sparkle in it but it doesn’t look glittery once applied evenly and under foundation. It’s fresh and dewy and brings a gorgeous lit-from-within glow to the skin. It also moisturises and creates a smooth surface beneath my makeup, making foundation application really easy.

I apply it with my hands. Quick and easy!

$67 for 50ml

Mac face and body foundation, in the shade C1. “A lightweight foundation that delivers a natural satin finish and sheer coverage.”

I absolutely love this foundation (especially on the days I’m loving my skin). It’s perfect for my morning routine as its quick and easy to apply. I slap some on with my fingers after warming the product up between my hands.

It evens out skin tone beautifully, is water resistant and adds a gorgeous sheen to the skin.

If cakey makeup is your pet hate then get onto this foundation. Not a line or wrinkle in sight. It embodies the no-makeup-makeup movement, and is my go-to for youthful looking skin.

Beware: this foundation is extremely sheer coverage and very dewy. If you want medium-full coverage in matte finish, I would steer far away from this bad boy.

$62 for 120ml.

Reviews on the rest of my routine makeup to come ❤

Every day makeup staples: An overview

Hi again!

So today I thought I would go into a bit more detail about myself. I am freckled and fair (neutral undertone) with combination skin (oily T-zone, normal everywhere else).

It’s been a challenge finding an everyday routine- I keep getting swept up in new products and constantly changing my mind… do I want to look matte? Or dewy? Big smokey eyes, or to embody the French look? (Beautiful red lips, dewy naked skin).

My makeup obsession really took off in January this year when I had two jobs and finally had some income coming in. I splurged, bought a lot of beautiful products (you will get to know about them in future posts) and was spoiled for choice. After 7 months of extensive trial (and error haha), I finally nailed my everyday beauty routine. So lets get started! (Detailed reviews of individual products to come!!)

Who I am: An introduction.

Hi guys!

A short introduction (you will get to know me very well over the coming posts.)  I have three major obsessions in life: cosmetics, food & music. Dogs come in close at 4th place.

As a training opera singer (soprano…diva alert!) I am fascinated by image and personal presentation, the way makeup can create a character, evoke a feeling, and express a personality. I love the way makeup makes me feel, on and off the stage.

Makeup means different things to me on different days. It’s a mask when I am shy and terrified my cheeks will burn red, a transformation when I am stepping into a characters shoes on stage. It’s an enhancer when I need a little boost, an expression of creativity when I use my face as a blank canvas.

I love the idea that you can become someone new with each application. You reinvent yourself time and time again and there’s so much more to explore. I also love the days you need no mask at all. Where you can be your authentic self and revel in it.

There’s no right or wrong. Wear makeup every day. Don’t wear it at all. For me, it’s the flexibility of choice and limitless possibilities. I’m on the hunt for the best products for everyday, special events and of course, the stage. Get ready for a heap of product reviews. My beauty obsession is here to stay!
